Built predominantly with laterite stone, the fort is known for its imposing walls, bastions, gateways, moats and traditional defensive architecture. It is closely associated with Queen Chennabhairadevi of Gersoppa, popularly known as the βQueen of Pepper,β and reflects the importance of the region's historic spice and maritime trade.
