Yana Caves

Discover the dramatic black limestone monoliths of Yana, hidden deep within the lush forests of the Western Ghats.

About Yana Caves

Yana Caves is one of Uttara Kannada's most remarkable natural attractions, famous for its towering black crystalline limestone formations โ€” Bhairaveshwara Shikhara and Mohini Shikhara. Surrounded by dense Western Ghats forest, the destination combines nature, adventure and spirituality. A short forest trek leads to the massive rock formations and the cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva beneath Bhairaveshwara Shikhara.

The unusual geological formations and peaceful forest setting make Yana an excellent experience for trekkers, photographers, nature lovers and pilgrims. Yana is also a Geoheritage Site of National Importance, adding geological significance to its natural and cultural appeal.

Best time to visit

October โ€“ March. Post-monsoon is especially scenic, while Octoberโ€“February offers better trekking conditions. Avoid heavy monsoon periods as forest trails can become slippery.
